Hi Elizabeth,
I have been pondering your question in my little odd moments, but I just haven't come up with any stunning ideas - I think my brain is to full. For core phase you want to think about what you want them to learn, work, play, proper behaviour in public etc. So i would do things like pretend going to the symphony or church or the grocery store etc. Also funny things like stopping them and asking how to do things like washing hands or threading a needle or feeding an animal and putting a time limit on getting something done, in time to get a reward (if we can get the living room cleaned up by 11:30, I'll read you a story - then debrief after by discussing how you can clean the room quicker).
With simulations you have to talk it over afterwards and let them have some ahha's of their own - this is when the real learning happens.
Let me know what happens!
